From the staff of the Tampa Bay Times

Bob "Shecky" Butterworth

Butimages It takes skill to talk about tragedies and challenges facing the most vulnerable Floridians and be both poignant and funny, but Department of Children and Families Secretary Bob Butterworth pulled it off today at the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club. Charlie Crist's favorite (?) Democrat, heaped praise on  the governor's commitment to the agency and to transparency, and on the dedication of DCF's often derided staffers.

He also managed a lot of yucks. Butterworth's initial understanding of DCF? "Those were the grades I received in middle school."

Greeting Crist's parents in the audience, Butterworth noted the governor's 70 percent-plus approval ratings: "...And that's with the Democrats. I never had that high approval ratings with the Democrats."

Butterworth said he's not sure how long he'll stay in the job, because nobody has given him business cards yet. Apparently, he quipped, that hasn't been necessary because prior DCF seccretaries never  stayed long enough to go through a full box.
