Buchanan v. Jennings

From the Vern Buchanan campaign: “The votes have been counted and the people have spoken,” said spokeswoman Sally Tibbetts.  “Congressman-elect Vern Buchanan won a majority of the votes in this race.  It is our understanding that in the coming days the Elections Canvassing Commission will determine whether or not there will be an automatic machine and, or manual recount.  We are confident that any recount would confirm that the voters have chosen Vern Buchanan.  Congressman-elect Buchanan looks forward to working in a bipartisan manner by listening to the concerns of all the voters, regardless of whether they are Republican, Democrat, or Independent and working to represent their interests and restore faith, trust, and confidence in Congress.”

Christine Jennings: “The Supervisor of Elections reported today that there were 18,382 undervotes in this Congressional race – more than 1 out of every 7 ballots cast.  That is a staggering number. Sarasota voters have been victimized by not having their vote count.  I hope my opponent agrees that the most important thing is to make sure every vote throughout the district is counted and counted accurately.  This is about ensuring fair elections.

“We have been receiving calls and emails since the beginning of early voting.  On Election Day we received dozens of reports from concerned voters.  Today, it is overwhelming, the number of emails and phone calls we have received. ... We will not rest until every vote is counted."

Ironically, the recount issue is being played out in a county that voted on Tuesday to return to a paper ballot.
