Builders rally for property tax cuts
Chanting "Cap impact fees," a couple hundred builders converged on Capitol Tuesday to rally for provisions to prevent local government from raising impact fees to offset lost property tax revenue. The rally was attened by Sen. Mike Haridopolos, Gov. Charlie Crist and other politicians at the forefront of the property tax debate.
"You're homebuilders, God bless you," Crist said. "You're building Florida's future. We want you to be able to do a lot more of it ... . But the stranglehold of property taxes on our people has got to stop. And it's going to."
Crist stopped to autograph orange and blue construction hats worn by demonstrators. Then he saw House Speaker Marco Rubio take the stage. Crist charged back up, startling Rubio, who twisted around and said, "Hey, Governor."
Crist patted him on the back and took the mic. "I just want to tell you how much I love this guy. He's doing great work."
