Bush on Israel, Insurance and Pino

Gov. Jeb Bush's first public appearance Monday since an international trade mission to England, Scotland and Ireland was a smorgesboard of nuggets. Buzz recaps here:

He said Israel has not overreacted: "What if Broward-Dade was a country and Palm Beach launched an attack and lobbed a missile into Deerfield Beach or Hillsborough Beach? What do you think (if) we were a small country and Canada attacked us in that way or Mexico did?"

His response to U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Brooksville, who joined Democrats last week in calling for a special session on insurance: "If we have some constructive suggestions if we have some solutions to to the short-term problems we face I’d be willing to call a special session but I’m not going to call a special session just for calling one. What good does that do?"

On Sergio Pino, a fundraiser for Bush's 2002 gubernatorial campaign and now working for Charlie Crist's gubernatorial bid. South Florida newspapers have reported Pino is under federal investigation on various allegations including that he reimbursed individuals who made polititical contributions: "I’ll talk to him,'' Bush said, noting he'd just read of the allegations as he flew back from England. "If there is any wrong doing it's in the right hands to determine that. I can assure you I’ve done nothing wrong, nor my campaign."

Bush also remained coy on whether he'll campaign on behalf of Miami-Dade School Board member Frank Bolanos, who is challenging state Sen. Alex Villalobos, R-Miami; and said he supports his brother's veto of the stem-cell research bill.
