Buzz's 5 Questions: Luis Garcia questions why Marco Rubio's parents returned to Cuba
We caught up with Democratic state Rep. Luis Garcia, who represent Little Havana at is running for Congress against Republican David Rivera, at the state Democratic convention at Disney. He discussed the congressional campaign and the revelations that Sen. Marco Rubio's parents left Cuba before Castro took over and in 1961 returned to Cuba. "I tell you one thing," Garcia said, "in 1961 the people who went back to Cuba were either members of the brigade or they were sympathizers to Castro that wanted to live in Castro's paradise down there. I cannot speak to Mr. Rubio's family. That would be for Mr. Rubio to explain."
Patrick Manteiga, editor of Tampa's La Gaceta newspaper and a Democratic activist, raised a similar point in a recent column that recounted how his grandfather also visited Cuba in 1961 and as a result was shunned by newly arrived members of the exile community.
