Cannon names Legg, Lopez-Cantera to leadership
Incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, today named two more members to his leadership team: John Legg as Speaker Pro Tem and Carlos Lopez-Cantera as majority leader.
Legg, as speaker pro tem, will preside over the chamber when Cannon is busy and will also lead the House Office of Public Information. “No legislative chamber in the country provides more raw information than the Florida House, and yet the legislative process remains muddy, and substantive information remains difficult to understand. As an officer of the House and the head of the House’s Office of Public Information, the Speaker pro tempore for 2010-12 will be charged with bridging that information divide not only for the Members but also for the public,” Cannon said in a release.
The majority leader typically runs the partisan office and helps round up the votes to pass the majority's agenda. Lopez-Cantera takes over the role after serving as majority whip the last two years. “Representative Lopez-Cantera has established a reputation as a skillful legislator and a forceful advocate. He understands that success comes from teamwork, and I am confident that he will lead the House Republican team to great success," said Cannon.
