Castor's new flack

Former Tampa Tribune reporter Ellen Gedalius has been tapped as the new press secretary for U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa. Gedalius has covered Tampa City Hall since 2005, but also covered the Florida Legislature, education and the Hillsborough County Commission in her six years at the paper.

She replaces Agustina Guerrero, who left for a communications gig PricewaterhouseCoopers in Tampa. Gedalius starts Sept. 8 and will be based in Castor's Tampa office.

“Ellen Gedalius is a talented writer and communicator," Castor said in a statement. "Her work ethic, experience and knowledge of the Tampa Bay area will serve the community well as we advocate for a change in the direction of the country, high quality affordable health care and access to education."

Before joining the Tribune, Gedalius covered county government for The Courier News in Bridgewater, N.J. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and has a minor in Spanish.
