Charlie Crist backing Bill Nelson over Connie Mack
AP: Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is opening his wallet and pledging his support to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.
Crist said Wednesday that he will attend an upcoming fundraiser for the Democratic incumbent that will be held at the home of trial lawyer John Morgan. Former President Bill Clinton will also be at the fundraiser. Crist, who left office in early 2011, currently works at Morgan's law firm.
Crist said he is supporting Nelson over likely-GOP nominee Connie Mack because Nelson is a friend and a good voice for Florida.
"Is anyone surprised?" Mack spokesman David James told the Buzz.
Earlier this year, we hear, Crist attended a Debbie Wasserman Schultz fundraiser at the home of John Morgan.
Crist is this far from formally becoming a Democrat, it seems. Next up, an endorsement of Barack Obama?
Said the Nelson campaign, “The event will be attended by many officials including the former governor. We’re glad to have all their support.”
