Civil rights leaders want FL delegates resolved
Two prominent civil rights leaders, former U.S. Civil Rights Commission Chair Mary Frances Berry and former assistant attorney general Roger Wilkins, are urging the DNC to resolve the issue of Florida's and Michigan's convention delegates: "We are not suggesting any particular way of deciding the issues. We are suggesting that the decision be made before the convention in an effort to avoid a floor fight. Public floor fights have served the party badly in the past. They left deep-seated ill will and preceded Democratic Party defeats in 1968 and 1972, for example. Resolution of this issue is a matter of fairness, justice and practicality."
DNC chairman Dean, meanwhile, will be joining Miami Beach Mayor Mattie Herrera Bower and other disenfranchised Florida Democrats for a grassroots rally and reception at Miami Beach's Halo restaurant at 8 p.m. Hey, it's not a party until some Florida Democrat loses his say in a presidential election.
