Concerns grow over delay in applying for federal education money
As budget talks between the House and Senate remain stalled, a major concern in the Capitol is federal stimulus funding for education - specifically, why Florida has yet to apply for the much-needed money.
In a meeting with Senate Democrats, Senate budget chairman J.D. Alexander, R-Lake Wales, got peppered with questions from worried lawmakers.
Senate Democratic leader Al Lawson noted that California has already received its funding. Why hasn't Florida moved faster, he asked?
"That's a question for the executive branch," Alexander replied. "We would hope they would be moving as expeditiously as possible, and hope they are."
