Connie Mack takes another step toward U.S. Senate race, hires full-time fundraiser
U.S. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, has hired a veteran fundraiser to collect money for his campaign committee, another sign he's going to enter the race for U.S. Senate.
Anne Ekern has worked for the NRSC and raised coin for Bill McCollum (2000) and Mel Martinez (2004). She has outlined an "aggressive" fundraising schedule for Friends of Connie Mack and will be based in Naples, "the site of a major event this Friday," a source tells the Buzz.
The fundraiser will be in the tea garden of the Ritz Carlton and features cigars and "beach music," according to an invite.
The fundraising escalation comes as a new poll shows Mack within 5 points of Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, which is closer than Mike Haridopolos, George LeMieux and Adam Hasner. Yesterday, Mack collected money in Washington at a Valentine's Day event with his wife, Rep. Mary Bono Mack.
