Cornyn wants Crist
U.S. Sen. John Coryn of Texas, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, tells The Hill newspaper he's trying to get Gov. Charlie Crist to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez.
"We're going to continue to visit," Cornyn told the paper. "It's very early in the game, but recruitment is important and the ability to be competitive on the financial front is very important, too. We're working on both of those fronts."
Crist, who is up for re-election in 2010, has repeatedly denied any interest. Cornyn said he has talked with other Republicans about running for the seat, including former state House Speaker Marco Rubio and Attorney General Bill McCollum.
