Karl Rove's PAC American Crossroads on Saturday reported spending $397,943 in "postage printing/production" for a mailer against Charlie Crist. A related group, Crossroads GPS, has paid for TV advertising against Crist.
Republicans aren't the only ones getting help. A Democratic-friendly group called America's Families First Action Fund reported today it had spent $23,229 in direct mail against Steve Southerland, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, D-Monticello.
The expenditures are just the latest example of the flood of outside money influencing the 2010 elections. With a week to go, outside groups including party committees have spent more than $322 million, up from $68 million in 2006, the last midterm election, according to the Center For Responsive Politics.
