Cretul: Optimism not the solution
House Speaker Larry Cretul, like Gov. Charlie Crist, loves optimism. But as Crist prepares to give the State of the State tonight, Cretul is sounding a more sober message about the state economy.
"I love optimism. I love optimism," Cretul said in a news conference. "But I also have been around long enough (to know) that sometimes even optimism is not necessarily the solution to the problem." Do you feel like the governor has been too optimistic? "I think you need to probably to ask the governor that."
"I think the state of the state is we need to be concerned," Cretul said. "And then we need to be also braced for some perhaps unpopular decisions. But I think as we move forward ... folks will understand. The better thing to do is ask what do you think the state of the taxpayer is in." (Buzz audio of entire news conference here.
