Crist adds Webster to U.S. Senate list
Gov. Charlie Crist today asked former state Sen. and House Speaker Dan Webster to submit an application for Mel Martinez's soon-to-be-vacated U.S. Senate seat. The governor will interview Sen. Webster on Friday in Orlando, time to be determined.
Recap: Crist has requested questionnaires from U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (who said thanks but no thanks), U.S. Attorney Roberto Martinez, Jim Smith, John Delaney, State Rep. Jennifer
Carroll, George LeMieux, U.S. Rep. Bill Young and Sen. Webster. He has interviewed Martinez, Delaney, Carroll and LeMieux.
Geographically and demographically, the list has two Hispanics, an African-American (who is also a female veteran), a rock-ribbed conservative, a Democrat-turned Republican, three South Floridians (we're including LeMieux in that), a Tampa Bay lawmaker, two northeast Floridians, and a Central Floridian.
