Crist and his Message

The word is getting around. A staple of Charlie Crist's stump speech goes like this: “Some people are in this race for them. I'm in this race for you.” He says it repeatedly, but never mentions Tom Gallagher, his opponent in the Republican primary for governor.

Crist used the line Friday night in Orange Park in a speech to the Clay County Flag Day Dinner, reminding the faithful that the GOP has to put its “best team on the field” against the Democrats in November.

Within minutes, a Gallagher operative phoned The Buzz, asking if it were true that Crist said “Gallagher was in it for himself.” No, he didn't say that -- but the message obviously reached its intended destination.
