Crist and Sink to return to Tally: to advocate for oil drilling ban
Former Gov. Charlie Crist and failed Democratic candidate for governor former CFO Alex Sink return to the Capitol on Wednesday to announce their support for a constitutional amendment on oil drilling.
Crist has been to war on this before -- when he called the Legislature back into special session to put an oil drilling ban on the November 2010 ballot. Legislators convened and adjourned the session hours later, snubbing the governor who had left the Republican Party as he unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Senate.
Sink, who was among the most vocal critics of the federal government's handling of the oil spill claims process that has crippled many Panhandle businesses, also supported the amendment.
This time they're bypassing the Legislature by seeking a petition drive to put the enviro-friendly amendment on the 2012 ballot -- when all 160 legislators will be up for re-election under newly drawn political lines.
