Crist asks BP to send state its claims data -- to help track costs
Gov. Charlie Crist today sent a letter to BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles, asking for copies of all its Florida claims data to help the state "evaluate the claims process and measure the economic impact of the losses to our state as a whole."
The idea first came up at the meeting of the economic impact working group of the Oil Spill Task Force on Monday. The request is for "a complete electronic file of every business, individual, and government claim throughout Florida, to be updated weekly."
The working group concluded that it needs the data to not only track how much money from BP is sending ailing businesses and individuals, but to help calculate how much lost revenue the state faces from drops in tax payments and numerous other fees. Download 2010.6.22 Doug Suttles BP America Inc1
