Crist heading to Vegas, Baby! Vegas!
Florida's gambling compact with the Seminoles remains a big what-if, but Gov. Charlie Crist is headed to the mecca of gambling to raise money for his U.S. Senate bid.
He will no doubt be one of the few people to return from Vegas with far more money than he had going in.
The Oct. 29 fundraiser at the Palazzo Hotel and Casino, one of the newest casinos on the strip, is hosted by Las Vegas Sands Corp. CEO Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire who according to Forbes is one of America's richest men. Also hosting is Sig Rogich, the Nevada Republican politico and marketing mastermind who worked for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Adelson was the big moneyman behind the conservative group Freedom's Watch, which spent millions during the 2008 election to attack Democrat Barack Obama and other Democratic candidates. (We wonder if Adelson saw the Crist-Obama stimulus man-hug just eight months ago....?)
The fundraiser will be held in the presidential suite, which is more than 5,000 square feet -- considerably larger than a typical foreclosed Florida home.
