Gov. Charlie Crist, on the road from Destin to Pensacola, just got off the phone with former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Bob Dole. Crist called to thank Dole, a supporter, for recording a robocall that will go out to Republicans.

But the talk quickly turned to the news of the day. Dole said he thinks the Kendrick Meek/Bill Clinton drop out story ultimately will help swing votes Crist's way. Dole and Clinton worked together on a Sept. 11, 2001 victims fund.

Crist just finished up speaking to about 100 supporters at a breakfast spot in Destin. "I don't have a political party to help me in the last four days of this race," he said. "I have the people."
