Crist keeps McDonough
Col. Jim McDonough, who took over command of a troubled Florida prison system 11 months ago, will keep his job, Gov. Charlie Crist announced Wednesday.
Crist called McDonough "a man of integrity, honor and discipline" who restored credibility to a system shattered by the wave of state and federal criminal charges against employees last year, culminating in the admission by former corrections secretary James Crosby that he accepted kickbacks from prison vendors. (Crosby is currently awaiting sentencing).
McDonough is a decorated combat veteran who formerly served as Gov. Jeb Bush's drug policy director. Accepting Crist's appointment, he told reporters: "I will do my best to be worthy of it every day."
