Crist for president?
From Hotline: ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?
There was a time when FL Gov. Crist thought he might come to town as a VP. A dogged defender of all things McCain, Crist was even willing to change his position on off-shore oil drilling when McCain needed cover.
-- Today, he arrives in DC as one of Pres. Obama's best GOP allies. And he's not ashamed to show it. But just how much would this help him in a potential WH '12 bid? We may find some early clues 2/22 when he faces off against a potential foe, LA Gov. Jindal, on "Meet".
-- Sure, it's early to talk about '12 match-ups. But are we seeing a rift forming between those GOPers who are all about motivating their base (Jindal, Sanford, Palin, et al), and those like Crist who prefer to reach out to the center? Crist's solid numbers among GOPers (the latest Q poll showed him w/a 71% approval rating) suggests that embracing Obama's policies haven't hurt him among the base.
-- Of course, Jindal and Crist have lots of other questions they need to answer before they can talk '12. Crist has to decide if he's running for SEN. And if you ask us, NBC's Gregory should press Jindal to make a definitive statement on his '11 intentions.
