Gov. Charlie Crist named former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shelton Quarles to the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority, a seven-county authority created this spring.

Quarles, 36, will serve as chairman of the authority through September 2009.

Crist also appointed Michael J. Bullerdick, 54, of Sarasota, regional president with First Community Bank of America, and Shawn E. Harrison, 42, of Tampa, attorney with Wetherington, Hamilton, Harrison and Fair.

This is not the first time Crist has picked a Buc for public service. Earlier he appointed Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks to lead his Commission on Physical Fitness.
