Crist signs property tax measures
With a Democratic legislator, Rep. Curtis Richardson, at his side, Gov. Charlie Crist on Thursday signed into law the two statutory pieces of the new property tax package: a rollback of tax rates to 2006 levels and setting a statewide referendum Jan. 29 on a proposed constitutional amendment to increase the state homestead exemption.
"I don't think it's going to be that hard to convince people to cut their property taxes," Crist said, predicting a 60-percent plus vote in January. "Nobody should really complain about this at all. Nobody."
