Crist supporters still confident in Democratic support
Don't tell Mike Fasano that Charlie Crist seems to be losing his grip on the three-way race for U.S. Senate. The Republican state senator said he's confident that Democrats will give Crist a lift, despite polls showing Kendrick Meek gaining, not to mention Republican Marco Rubio opening up his lead.
"As you get closer to the election, unless Meek can show a poll he’s in second place, a lot of Democrats don’t want to waste their votes," Fasano said.
Last week, Fasano hosted a fundraiser for Crist in Pasco County that drew the lone Democratic county commissioner Michael Cox, Republican commissioner Ann Hildebrand and sheriff Bob White, a longtime Crist ally. It raised about $39,000 and was held at the home of Rich and Laura Bekesh, who operate an architectural and engineering firm in Holiday.
Fasano also has been raising money for a pro-Crist elections committee and just pulled in $50,000 from hedge fund giant Paul Tudor Jones. The committee has paid for three mailers -- one directed at independents, another at Republicans and now, a third for Democrats. Check it out:
Democratic voters would never guess it came from a Republican.
