Crist Votes and Waits

5

September

A "confident, but not complacent" Charlie Crist cast his ballot Tuesday morning at his home precinct at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, emerging with an "I voted" sticker to face a lineup of six TV cameras. "I feel good," Crist said.

The 50-year-old attorney general had a brief phone conversation with Gov. Jeb Bush, and plans to spend an anxious day with family and campaign advisers before monitoring returns in the primary election for governor at the Renaissance Vinoy hotel.

It was a beautiful, sunny morning in St. Pete. The turnout felt light, but Crist said there were a lot of people at his precinct. (The law bans media representatives from entering polling places).

Crist waved off a question about analyzing results for regional strengths and weaknesses. "I just want to win," he said. "We can talk about that other stuff later."

Crist voted a Republican ballot that included the state Senate race between Kim Berfield and Frank Farkas and the Randy Johnson-Tom Lee contest for chief financial officer. But he wouldn't discuss his choices. "It's a secret ballot," Crist said.
