Crist Will Donate Foley Money to Charity
Charlie Crist told the Buzz Tuesday he was unaware he had received a $500 contribution from Mark Foley's PAC - as Democrats were pleased to point out in an e-mail to reporters - but said he would donate it to charity.
"That's probably appropriate, yes. I didn't even know he contributed." Crist added that he has gotten some 30,000 contributions. The money came on Sept. 27, 2005 from Foley's Florida Republican Leadership PAC.
The Democrats' statement:
"Republicans across the country have dumped Foley-tainted cash - yet here in Florida, the Attorney General, the chief law enforcement officer of the state and pontificator on all high-profile crimes, is holding on to the money?" Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman asked. "What is Charlie Crist waiting for? He ought to donate that money to charity and recuse himself from all involvement in the investigation of his friend, Congressman Foley."
Crist and Foley have known one another at least since serving together in the State Senate together in the '90s. Foley attended a September fundraiser for Crist in Washington.
