Crist wins-loses on PSC
Gov. Charlie Crist managed to remove two PSC members but his replacements will not go through as planned. The resignations of Isilio Arriaga and Ken Littlefield, booted from the PSC the day after they were sworn in, means the nominating process must begin again. Crist had taken two existing names from a shortlist created by a legislative committee, Phil Nowicki and Jeremy Susac. Now a new list will be made, said Kathy Mears, deputy chief of staff for Senate President Ken Pruitt. The Senate plans to expedite the process, which can normally take months.
Isilio issued a statement Monday criticizing the governor's move but conceding his tenure is over. “While I am disappointed by the Governor’s unprecedented decision and the manner in which it was carried out, I fully respect his desire to accept ultimate responsibility for the difficult decisions the PSC must often make. ... As a faithful Republican, I sought to advance the principles of my party of choice, trying to stay consistent to Governor Bush’s philosophy and his vision for Florida , as so many others have pledged to do.”
