Dave Aronberg leads A.G. candidates in fundraising
Money is a huge factor in down-ballot statewide races, and Democrat Dave Aronberg is narrowly outpacing fellow Democrat Dan Gelber in the primary for state attorney general. Updated campaign finance totals show Aronberg raising $1,615,534 through Aug. 6, and Gelber close behind at $1,564,545. The latest reports for the two state senators include money collected the week of July 31-Aug. 6. In that period, Gelber dropped $875,000 with Luc Media of Marietta, Ga., for TV ad time.
In a week in which a Gelber-backed 527 slammed Aronberg for voting for higher telephone rates, Aronberg's list of $500 contributors includes Verizon lobbyist Woody Simmons.
On the Republican side, Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp is the only GOP'er to crack the $1 million barrier, at $1,056,093. Former Hillsborough prosecutor Pam Bondi is close behind at $945,726 and ex-state agency head Holly Benson reports a grand total of $859,952. All totals include cash contributions, financial support from political parties and disbursements under the state's public campaign finance program.
