Dave Bitner remains Fla GOP chairman
A classy political consultant/REC member or two is/are eagerly reporting that David Bitner is stepping down as Florida GOP chairman because of health issues and taking odds on his successor. Here's the thing: David Bitner, as most of the Fla GOP knows, was diagnosed earlier this year with ALS, often called Lou Gehrig's disease, but remained a tireless chairman even lately as his condition has deteriorated significantly.
There is talk that Bitner may step down any day now or resign at of the end of the Presidency 5 weekend he organized. Of course the party is aware of that and vice chairman Lenny Curry would be interim chairman if that happened. But maybe it's time for some folks to take a deep breath and back off.
David Bitner remains lucid, courageous, and the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. Stay classy.
UPDATE: From Florida GOP communications director Brian Hughes: David Bitner is the Chairman of the RPOF, and he is working everyday to advance the mission of our party. He has courageously and publicly discussed his ALS diagnosis, and yet he works everyday to make Florida better. These new reports about his future as the RPOF’s chairman are premature, factually inaccurate, and reek of the worst kind of political opportunism. People should spend less time gossiping about Chairman Bitner and more time admiring a man who displays principled leadership every single day
