Davis Allies Demand Smith Condemn Ad
U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Robert Wexler demanded Tuesday that Rod Smith denounce a third-party ad blasting Jim Davis for missing a vote on a resolution on the attacks on Israel. But Smith refused to do so, maintaining Congressman Davis' record of missed votes is a legitimate issue.
"If he does not choose to condemn ... then he's tacitly supporting an organization spreading lies about his opponent," Wasserman Schultz said in a telephone news conference with reporters Tuesday afternoon. "That doesn't demonstrate a lot of integrity."
The mail piece was sent by a third-party organization and seemingly aimed at drumming up support for Smith among Jewish voters in South Florida. More details here and in Wednesday's Times.
