Democrats are touting a couple internal polls showing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis 5 to 7 percentage points behind Republican Charlie Crist. But Davis better hope a credible public poll pops up soon to pierce the air of inevitability starting to surround Crist.

More ominous news for Davis came today from Gannett's Bill Cotterell, who reports that former state Sen. Al Lawson, a former Rod Smith supporter, hasn't decided whether to back Davis or Crist. "I'm not saying that I won't support Davis, nor am I saying that I won't support Crist,'' Lawson said. "I'm about winning and I always have been.''
