Davis names Mitchell Berger finance chair

Jim Davis on Monday appointed Mitchell Berger to chair his statewide Campaign Finance Committee. Berger, a Fort Lauderdale attorney and Democratic fundraiser, called Davis “the only Democratic candidate who can win the race for governor.”

But is it really news? Berger had already been working for the campaign. Buzz observers made the immediate connection that the Davis campaign seemed to recycle news of Bob Graham's involvement too. A spokeswoman said Berger now has an "official" title.

Berger served as a national co-chair of John Kerry’s presidential campaign and as its Florida general counsel. He was a member of President Bill Clinton’s transition team in 1992 and 1993, and served as senior advisor to the Gore 2000 Campaign. By selecting a prominent South Florida figure, Davis could be trying to shore up support in the vote-rich region. Rod Smith, his primary opponent, is making inroads there, too.
