Davis Rained Out
Jim Davis' "Our side, Our priorities" tour got off to a soggy start Friday. His flight from Tallahassee to Tampa was diverted to Lakeland due to monsoon-like rain. And so, the congressman was a no show at Alexander Elementary School in Tampa, his hometown.
A handful of reporters stood under an oak tree, juggling notepads and umbrellas, as the leaders of the Hillsborough and Pinellas classroom teachers associations restated their support of Davis. Rod Smith "certainly has been a friend of education. But Jim's record has been longer, stronger ...," said Jean Clements, president of the Hillsborough group, which represents 15,000 teachers.
The press van is headed to Orlando (Springsteen's "Seeger Sessions" CD playing on the stereo) where Davis and Bob Graham will appear at GEO Technical and Environmental Consultants Inc. for an economic policy discussion. Stay tuned.
