Debunking Tally rumor mill, take 2: C.W. Bill Young not planning to retire

April

U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, tells Buzz there's nothing to the recurring rumors in Tallahassee that he's bound for the pasture after his 20th term ends in 2010. He said he never decides fully whether to run again until the election year, but he's not planning on quitting.

"I'm feeling good, and doing interesting stuff," he said.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also is launching a weeklong radio ad criticizing Young for voting against a recent spending bill that included a new $400 tax break for most Americans, and $800 for couples.

Young is the longest-serving Republican in either the House or the Senate and is the top Republican on the appropriations subcommittee that funds the military. He also is 78, but says he feels 30 years younger.

"The rumors of my retirement have been (surfacing) for six to eight years, and for some reason they always come out of Tallahassee," Young said. "Sometimes you wonder if it's not just wishful thinking on someone's part."
