Democrats on Crist's budget

2

February

Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller:  “While we continue to review the budget, at first glance it appears that the governor has finally recognized the need for a real infusion of cash into such areas as education,  everglades and health and human services. ... We urge caution on his current plan to roll back property taxes, and continue to hope that he will explore alternative ways to deliver relief without bankrupting local governments or sacrificing critical services such as police and fire."

House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber: Democrats appreciate his request for improved funding to address class-size reduction, mental health services and a voter verifiable paper trail. Unfortunately, this budget proposal continues to burden homeowners with the state imposed property tax (required local effort), which is increasing by $450 million.  The state’s fixed education budget should not be balanced on the backs of our homeowners. Our most important tax cut should be lowering property taxes for everyday Floridians, not increasing them.”
