Democrats fight against Negron signs at polls

The Florida Democratic Party doesn’t want signs in polling places advising that a vote for the disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley is really a vote for Joe Negron.

The party filed an emergency injunction in Leon County Circuit Court on Friday asking a judge to stop elections supervisors in eight counties from distributing informational sheets that would describe candidate switch at polling places.

Attorney Ronald Labasky had issued a legal opinion on behalf of Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections saying that informational sheets can be placed at polling places in the counties within Congressional District 16.

But the Democrats say such a move would violate state laws that prohibit soliciting people within 100 feet of the entrance of polling places.

The injunction has been assigned to Leon County Circuit Judge Janet Ferris. A hearing has yet to be scheduled.
