For Democrats, 'the purge' now becomes a motivator
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is out with an online petition opposing "Republican attempts to suppress the Democratic vote" in Florida. The DSCC warns voters: "We can't let the Republicans steal this election. Demand that the Florida GOP obey the Department of Justice and stop their illegal voter purge." By signing the online petition, voters help the DSCC build a database of potential contributors and supporters.
For the record, the Florida Republican Party has nothing to do with the attempt to purge the voter rolls of non-citizens; it was a mandate from Gov. Rick Scott's administration, in the Department of State, upon the 67 county supervisors of election. The supervisors suspended the electronic hunt for non-citizens, calling the state's list of 2,625 names unreliable, and now the state and federal government are suing each other over the issue.
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Florida could make or break President Obama's re-election," the DSCC mailer says.
