Democrats say they posted nearly 38,000 vote advantage on first day of early voting
The Obama campaign says 306,567 Floridians turned out to vote yesterday -- double the turnout from the first day of early voting in 2008.
"Democrats made up 48.2% of the voters who turned out yesterday, while Republicans only accounted for 35.9%," the campaign said. "On the first day of Early Voting, Democrats opened up a 37,734 lead in early vote turnout."
An open question: how independents voted. Numbers provided by the Obama campaign show 40,427 independents, or 13 percent, voted Saturday. From our poll today:
Romney leads Obama among crucial independent voters 49 percent to 41 percent, and he leads among men by 16 percentage points. Obama leads among women 50 percent to 46 percent, but that's not nearly as much of an advantage as Democrats have hoped for.
