Democrats urge Nelson, LeMieux to support health care plan
With the Senate health care bill in the final stretch, Democrats plan phone banks across the state tomorrow to urge Sens. Bill Nelson and George LeMieux to support the plan. Organizing for America, the infrastructure of the Obama campaign, said it will set up 28 call centers across the state.
But will it work? At this point, Nelson is a "yes" vote but LeMieux has firmly joined Republican critics of the proposal.
Today, Independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman said he would support the Democrats' bill as long as it did not include a government-run insurance plan. "I'm going to be in a position where I can say what I've wanted to say all along: that I'm ready to vote for health care reform."
