Democrats use robo calls to pressure Florida Republicans on taxes

Democrats are running robo calls in four Florida congressional districts, trying to pressure Republicans into allowing a vote on extending Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class but not upper income families.

"Hi this is Julie calling on behalf of the DCCC," begins the call. "Did you know Congressman Dan Webster could make sure Congress votes to extend tax cuts for the middle class and avoids the fiscal cliff, but he refuses. If Congressman Webster doesn’t act, the average middle class family will be stuck with a crushing $2,200 tax hike. Why? Because Congressman Webster is holding the middle class hostage to get more reckless, budget-busting tax cuts for millionaires. It’s wrong."

The calls are also going out against Reps. Steve Southerland, Bill Young and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

At issue is a "discharge" petition that Democrats have signed. It won't go anywhere but the campaign tactics reveal some of the politics involved in the fiscal cliff negotiations.

"It’s critical you make your voice heard," the call continues. "Demand that Congressman Webster get a vote to extend tax cuts for the middle class immediately, not hold the middle class hostage to get more tax cuts for millionaires. Go to to demand that Congressman Webster force the vote and avoid the fiscal cliff."
