Dems want Crist to step up on PIP
House Democrats today delivered a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist, House Speaker Marco Rubio and Senate President Ken Pruitt urging movement on PIP and warning about a secret deal that would amount to a "Tallahassee Special." The Democrats are filing a bill, to be considered during the upcoming special session, that would provide a one-year extension of PIP.
"We believe the worst choice for Floridians would be sunsetting PIP without reforming it; yet that appears to be the most likely and unfortunate scenario," Reps. Dan Gelber and Joyce Cusack write. "What is most disappointing is that we believe gridlock and the influence of special interests are causing this impasse. That is why it would be best for the Legislature simply to extend PIP for one year to give the Legislature the opportunity to properly do what it should have done last session."
