Detert says she's not pledged in 2010
Buzz knows how political insiders love to speculate on Senate Presidency 2010. Caution: this item only works if you assume the Republicans are going to keep the Senate in 2010.
Buzz got a hold of Republican Nancy Detert who is in a competitive race with Democrat Morgan Bentley for the Sarasota-area seat about to be vacated by Sen. Lisa Carlton. Detert denied that she had signed a pledge card for Sen. Mike Haridopolos to be Senate president in 2010.
She denied signing a pledge card for anyone in that race and said she wasn't planning on throwing her support to anyone until after the election. That said, Detert added that she hadn't signed a pledge card for Sen. Jeff Atwater for this year "and he's a given."
In most Republican circles there's been this understanding that Detert is supporting a Haridopolos presidency, because he supported her against Republican Michael Grant who lost, even with Gov. Charlie Crist's support.
Generally, there's been an assumption that Haridopolos has 2010 all sewn up. But Detert cautioned against assumptions, at least when it comes to her support.
Meanwhile, there's a Buzz that Sen. Paula Dockery and Sen. Michael Bennett may have teamed up some how, although Buzz has no idea how that would work. The two of them were spotted watching primary results together. Sen. Dockery would not confirm anything on Tuesday and Buzz is waiting for a call back from Sen. Bennett.
