Diaz Balart and Brown say they will keep fighting redistricting rule
Federal District Court Judge Ursula Ungaro wasted no time Friday upholding the constitutional amendment approved by voters and threw out the challenge by U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown and Mario Diaz Balart.
Brown and Diaz Balart said they will keep fighting, taking the measure to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary. They released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling was disappointing, but as many of you know this is a long process and we will continue to stand firm and fight for the Constitution. We took an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and that is precisely why we are here today. We strongly believe the Amendment is unconstitutional and could cause irreparable damage to the federal electoral process and thwart the drawing of districts where minorities have the opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.”
