Did Rubio break Pledge? No, says pledge boss
A caller from Gainesville asks the Buzz how House Speaker Marco Rubio and other House members can sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and still support a plan that raises the sales tax by 2.5 percent. By signing the pledge, "candidates and incumbents solemnly bind themselves to oppose any and all tax increases."
The pledge is the product of Grover Norquist's American for Tax Reform. You can see Rubio's name along with other state reps. here.
Rest assured, says Norquist himself, the pledge is safe. He recently wrote a letter pointing out that the net effect of Rubio's plan is a significant tax decrease.
