Don Davis returns to House
Rep. Don Davis, the Jacksonville Republican who underwent surgery for a brain tumor then suffered a stroke, made a dramatic return to the House moments ago. He entered to the "Rocky" theme song and was engulfed by colleagues. "Hey Davis, why don't you get up here so we can get to work," House Speaker Marco Rubio joked.
"I'm really happy to be back here. I must tell you I missed you, Florida House, terribly," Davis said. "I just miss being with you and being in the process. I just miss you terribly."
Davis, 75, returned the humor, saying he was ready to announce the property tax solution. He introduced his wife and children and thanked everyone for the well wishes. Davis said he has five radiation treatments left and looks forward to getting back to work, maybe in time for the special session. "That's when I'm going to reveal my solution."
The House then unanimously passed HB 1325, which provides incentives for the movie industry. Gov. Charlie Crist entered and signed the bill. "Where's Julia Roberts when you need her?" Davis asked. On cue, a poster was unveiled showing Davis leaning against the star in a Pretty Woman mock-up.
