Dueling GOP Endorsements

Tom Gallagher's campaign for governor picked up the endorsement Tuesday of Paul Senft, who holds the high-level state Republican Party post of national committeeman. He's also vice-chairman of the Polk County Commission.

"During these challenging times for our state, it is imperative Republicans not choose a path of moderation, or a candidate who tries to be all things to all people. Tom Gallagher is the man who best represents our values, and who can be counted on to stay the course," Senft said in a campaign release that identified him as a "Republican Party leader."

UPDATE: Gallagher's trumpeting of the Senft endorsement rankled Senft's counterpart, Republican National Committeewoman Sharon Day of Fort Lauderdale. She endorsed Charlie Crist in April but kept quiet to avoid the awkward appearance of party leaders taking sides in party primaries. Crist's campaign never publicized Day's endorsement.

"I think it was disrespectful," Day said of the Senft release. "This totally shows the difference between the two campaigns."
