Dwight Dudley hits Frank Farkas over utility vote
In one of the most competitive state house districts in Florida, Democrat Dwight Dudley isn't waiting for the primary to conclude before going after likely GOP nominee Frank Farkas. After a Tampa Bay Times story about the rising costs for atfixing Progress Energy's nuclear plant in Crystal River, Dudley is blaming Farkas for hurting consumers.
Farkas was a legislator in 2006 and voted for SB 888, allowing utility companies like Progress Energy to charge ratepayers for construction costs of nuclear plants regardless of their completion.
"This outrageous fee will cost Floridians more than one billion dollars - for something that may never be built," said Dudley. "My opponent says he regrets voting for it. I never would have voted for it, and I'll vote to repeal it in the Florida House. And while I'm glad my opponent admits his costly mistake, it's six years late and a billion dollars short. Farkas left Floridians holding the bill. Frankly, we just can't afford more of his failed leadership."
