Early Florida reaction to Obama's Afghanistan decision
President Obama tonight will announce his plans for Afghanistan, and is expected to call home 10,000 troops by the end of the year, with another 20,000 by the end of 2012. Already some skeptical reactions are coming from Florida Republicans.
"If we pull troops out of Afghanistan immediately - then what? Taliban resurfaces, civil war? Pres has no strategy, that's the problem," tweeted Rep. Allen West of Plantation.
No one expects troops to be yanked "immediately," as West says, but some U.S. military leaders are urging a more gradual withdrawal than Obama is reportedly planning to announce. Sen. Marco Rubio said yesterday that the number of troops to the withdrawn should be a "military decision - and it should be a decision based upon our goal of providing enough security so the Afghan people, if they desire to do so, can go build a country for themselves."
