Ehrlich makes EMILY's List in bid to beat Young
EMILY's List, the Washington group that supports Democratic women candidates who favor abortion rights, announced its support of Democrat Jessica Ehrlich in her bid for Congress. She faces a primary fight against former Pinellas School Board member Nina Hayden. The ultimate target is U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young's long-held congressional seat.
“I am extremely honored to be placed “On the List” by EMILY’s List - one of the premier women’s organizations in our country,” Ehrlich said in a statement. “Our country and our communities are facing real challenges, but the radical Republicans in Washington are doing nothing to help our struggling economy or the middle class. Pinellas County deserves a fighter who will work to attract good jobs, support our small businesses, and protect our commitments to seniors, and that’s why I am running for Congress.” (news release on the jump)
EMILY’s List Puts Jessica Ehrlich “On the List”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced it is placing Jessica Ehrlich, a candidate for Florida’s thirteenth congressional district, “On the List.”
The EMILY’s List community now stands at more than one million members strong. These supporters are getting their information earlier, quicker, and on the web and they’re ready to take action now. “On the List” is a new way for EMILY’s List members to engage with and support promising candidates early in an election cycle. By putting Ehrlich “On the List,” EMILY’s List is ensuring that she has access to this powerful network of supporters.
“Jessica is running a strong campaign to be a leader the people of Florida can count on in Congress,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “A dedicated advocate for job creation, working families, and seniors, Jessica is ready to make sure Washington starts working for the women and families of Florida. A St. Petersburg native, she has the support and experience to win in what is sure to be a hard-fought race against a 21-term Republican incumbent. Jessica is helping lead the charge to take back the House in 2012 and the EMILY’s List community is thrilled to put her ‘On the List’ today.”
Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Jessica Ehrlich attended Vanderbilt University and Southern Methodist University law school. She clerked for the Mid-Florida Federal Court Chief in 2003. Ehrlich went on to serve as a legislative aide in Washington where she gained valuable experience working with the House Financial Services Committee. A dedicated member of the St. Petersburg community, Erhlich’s top priority is ending the gridlock in Washington in order to create jobs and to help working families and seniors.
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY’s List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 1,000,000 members across the country, EMILY’s List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List has worked to elect 87 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY’s List had the largest number of members and donors in our 27 year history.
